The Farm

Finca La Flor De Paraiso

Finca La Flor de Paraíso is located in the village of La Flor, near Paraíso, in the province of Cartago. It is one hour and a half driving from San Jose International Airport. The farm grounds are beautiful and offer a panoramic view of the Orosi Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in the country.

Here is an overview of facilities...

For humans...
  • 7 eco-lodges
  • an open-air vegetarian restaurant
  • a common room with an office
  • a yoga studio overlooking the valley
  • in construction, a solar-powered sauna and "dipping" pool.
For animals...
  • stables
  • a goat house
  • play fields!
Recycling and composting
  • a "worm farm"
  • a compost area
  • a "biodigestor" generating gas

Everything is and is done, in harmony with nature. Most of the 37 acres of the farm is dedicated to preserving the vegetation, and the endangered species that live in it, such as birds, sloths, and butterflies.

The Finca is not just a farm though, since the experience you get there wouldn't be the same without the wonderful and dedicated people who live, work and study there. They know and do everything, from weeding to cooking, cleaning to chopping, and working together sometimes along with brothers and sisters, uncles, mothers and sons. They are real people who will invite you to their home for coffee.

Food

From the earth to your plate! Eugenia and Doña Elisa prepare delicious vegetarian food everyday in the open-air vegetarian restaurant at the Finca. It's fresh, organic, nutritious and so tasty and delicious! It's the way every meal should always be. Cooking is done in the wood and solar stoves, and the clay oven is used for baking breads.

Accomodation

Accommodation is in comfortable eco-lodges with bathrooms and hot water. The cabins are nice and cozy, they blend in with nature, and all offer a spectacular view of the valley. There is also a common room where volunteers hang out after lunch to chat, read, write, play the guitar, and after dinner to play cards or charades - definitely my favorite! - , watch a film, or even dance!
