Volunteering

As a volunteer, you will make a great contribution to the finca La Flor. You have the choice to work in that area of the farm in which you would like to get more experience or you can rotate from one area to another.

There are six different areas on the farm:
  • Organic agriculture: planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, composting, etc...
  • Botanical garden and forest
  • Taking care of the goats and horses
  • Work in the medicinal garden
  • Construction work
  • Cooking: preparing delicious vegetarian meals, baking bread, making the snacks smoothies, etc.

And a lot more! There is always an interesting project going on at the farm.

Spanish Classes

No previous experience in Spanish is required to volunteer or participate in any activity at the farm, and all members of the staff speak some degree of English.

We strongly recommend, however, that you take advantage of the class included in your package to learn the basics, develop your skills, or perfect your conversational skills.

Even the very basics of a language can open up the deepest and most meaningful conversations. It not only develops respect and understanding for others but it also provides a base for a more heartfelt conversation.

Classes are taught by trained language instructors both inside the classroom or outside on the farm. Learning new vocabulary and practicing conversational skills is encouraged while enjoying a walk, during yoga or working on the farm.

Relax, meditate, or ride a horse!

Here is a list of sample activities you can enjoy on the farm during your afternoon free time:
  • Walks in the bamboo forest.
  • Horse rides - all horses are gentle and easy to ride.
  • Hikes in the rain forest.
  • Bird watch - it's easy, there are colorful birds everywhere!
  • Take a meditative walk in the botanical garden.
  • "After lunch, my three person Spanish class met in a classroom where Vinicio led us through introductory Spanish with patience and humor. By the end of the week, I was able to write a short composition about myself and my family and had a blast doing it."
